Being cooped up is no fun for anyone, but we can still be social within our homes and practice yoga. It may actually be a great time to start, with all this extra time, and learning something new is fun. Even though all of the yoga studios are closed down, you can work with an online yoga instructor.
Yoga helps you get some exercise, and has proven to be beneficial to your mental health as well. Numerous studies have shown the physical and mental health benefits of yoga. Yoga can help you with your balance, your strength, endurance, anxiety, depression, and more.
If you want to continue your yoga classes, or try it out for the first time, you may need to think outside the brick and mortar box of a yoga studio. Think Zoom, Google Hangouts, Microsoft Teams, Facetime and more. Whatever your platform, we can work something out.
Working with an Online Yoga Instructor is Better than Watching a Video
But wait! You say there are all sorts of yoga videos online for free. With a video, you don’t get the one on one coaching that you do when you work with a yoga instructor. An experienced instructor can help you in real time. We can do much more than a video, by:
- Helping you perfect your form
- Suggesting easier, safer, or more challenging poses based on your ability
- Leading you through guided meditations
- Guiding you in your breathing
- Sharing the basic spiritual and intellectual principles of yoga
- And more
And while you might talk back to a video, you won’t get any answers. When you work with a real, live, yoga instructor, you can ask questions about anything you don’t understand, or ask for clarification. You can’t do that with a video. And honestly, it’s much more fun to engage with another human being!
Who Can Work with an Online Yoga Instructor?
You can! So can your flat mates or family members. As long as you have a good internet connection and a computer or laptop with a camera and microphone, you are ready to work with an online yoga instructor.
Look for a certified yoga instructor who works with clients of all ages, and any ability. That includes:
- Yoga for beginners
- Yoga for kids
- Yoga for seniors
- Yoga for every-body!
What Yoga Equipment Do You Need?
If you’ve done yoga before, you'll likely already have the yoga equipment you need.
But if you’re new to the wonders of yoga, you may need to improvise, unless you order something online.
You will need:
- A yoga mat
- Yoga block
- Yoga bricks
- Comfortable, breathable clothing, not too heavy.
- A water bottle
- A hand towel to wipe the sweat away
